In addition to WeChat from China, there are two other notable Asian social networking players to know of: Line out of Japan and Kakao from Korea.
Those three will be battling for supremacy in the Asian market and the winner there is likely to become a really global player, according to Chris Baker, Founder at Totem Media.
''Whether or not WeChat wins that competition is yet to be seen, but they have done a tremendous job so far in achieving international growth,'' says Chris.
''There are markets in Asia where Line is a winner, for instance in Southeast Asia. Kakao also has a few markets where it dominates outside of Korea.''
''But typically it is a two horse race between Line and WeChat. In China I would put my money on WeChat.''
